UF Health Moonshot Program A front door for hospital innovation

You bring the insight and idea. We help you build the team, navigate the system, test the solution, demonstrate its impact, and take it further.

Why this matters

Innovation and collaboration are essential to making things better.

The Innovation & Moonshot Program is a path to doing that at Shandsโ€”bringing people and ideas together to improve care.

A front door for hospital innovation

Ideas should not stall because the process of innovation and execution is difficult to navigate.

The Innovation & Moonshot Program is a hospital-wide coordinating platform for people who see a problem, imagine a better way, and need help turning that insight into measurable impact.

No matter how big, small, simple, or complex the idea is, we can work together to create lasting impact for patients, families, faculty and staff, learners, and communities.

Whatโ€™s in it for you

More than a place to submit an idea.

Find the right people

We connect you with clinical, nursing, operational, technical, and executive partners who can help move the work forward.

Build a real pilot

Turn an early insight into a defined problem, testable intervention, measurement plan, and supported clinical pilot.

Get credit for the impact

Remain involved, receive recognition, and pursue opportunities for leadership, scholarship, and spread.

Two ways to create impact

Start with the problem. Weโ€™ll help find the right path.

Innovation project

Solve an important problem now

Focused projects that improve a workflow, clinical process, patient experience, workforce experience, safety outcome, or operational result.

Moonshot initiative

Build the future of the hospital

Ambitious, cross-departmental initiatives designed to transform a major dimension of care at UF Health Shands.

A clear pathway from idea to impact

You do not have to navigate it alone.

Share

Tell us the problem, your idea, and who it could help.

Shape

We help clarify the opportunity, team, measures, and best pathway.

Test

Selected ideas become supported pilots with defined decision points.

Scale

What works can spread across Shands, UF Health, or beyond.

Innovation in action

Examples of innovations that have come through the Program.

Clinical Innovation

Predicting demand before it arrives.

A HIPAA-compliant predictive analytics platform uses AI models to forecast the number of emergency department admissions two, four, and eight hours ahead.

These forecasts give clinical and operational leaders earlier insight into demand, improve operational decision-making, and create more capacity for the emergency department to deliver excellent patient care.

From prediction to action
Anticipate admissions. Align resources. Protect capacity.

Educational Innovation

Turning competency data into a teaching plan.

A precision medical education app synthesizes residentsโ€™ procedural experience and observed competency.

Before a shift begins, the attending can see where the resident needs deliberate practice and identify the procedures and coaching to prioritize that dayโ€”making every clinical shift a more intentional learning opportunity.

See something that could work better?

You do not need a finished solution or a business plan. Tell us what you are seeing, why it matters, and what better could look like.

What happens after you submit?
Every idea receives a transparent review. Selected projects receive a named program partner, help assembling the right team, and support developing a pilot and measures.
