Administrative Fellowship

Program Overview

The Health Care Administrative Fellowship at UF Department of Emergency Medicine is a full-time, 2-year paid position running from FY26-FY27. This program is designed to provide comprehensive exposure and experience in clinical operations, education, research, finance, revenue cycle management, data analysis, staffing & recruitment planning, and professional development.

Eligibility

Candidates must have a background in healthcare administration, finance, or a related field and demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career in healthcare management. Experience in emergency medicine or clinical settings is preferred.

Fellow Activities

Clinical Operations

  • Shadow faculty in the emergency department to understand clinical environments.
  • Utilize staffing models and effort tables to inform operational analyses across the 5 EDs in Gainesville and Ocala.
  • Manage clinical projects using project management tools (e.g., RACI matrices, Gantt charts).
  • Participate in recurring ED operations meetings.

Education

  • Assist in developing processes and policies to improve resident note completion rates.

Research

  • Create high-level financial reports related to research activities.

Finance

  • Report clinical revenue, profit & loss (P&L), and salary variances.
  • Engage in budget preparation and review staffing requests.
  • Work with the finance team for division budget review and negotiations.
  • Update shadow budget workbooks and gain experience in OneStream.
  • Monitor external contract revenue.
  • Produce financial proformas for new hires and prepare fiscal year-end reports.
  • Analyze general ledgers, project shift differential payouts, and attend finance meetings.

Revenue Cycle Management

  • Collaborate with the Director on department relations with a third-party medical coding company.
  • Ensure timely clinical documentation by faculty, APPs, and residents.
  • Liaise between UF compliance office and coding companies for audit reports and billing.

Data Analysis

  • Perform base and total compensation forecasting.
  • Utilize data repositories and analytics for clinical, financial, and HR data.
  • Report monthly RVUs, ADUs, and financial data for the Critical Care Medicine division.
  • Submit clinical data for AAAMC benchmarking.

Staffing & Recruitment Planning

  • Assist with modifying and creating position descriptions.
  • Use staffing models to inform recruitment efforts.

Professional Development

  • Meet regularly with the Assistant Director of Finance & Research for skills development.
  • Have ownership and management of projects.
  • Participate in networking activities within UF COM-wide fellowships and internships.
  • Refine presentation skills.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $60,500 to $70,000, commensurate with education and experience.
