About Matthew Ryan

Dr. Ryan serves as the executive vice chair and interim chief in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from State University of New York, Oneonta. Dr. Ryan then made his way to the Sunshine State, where he completed his master’s degree in chemistry and his doctorate in inorganic chemistry at the University of Florida. Prior to medical school, Dr. Ryan held postdoctoral fellowships in the department of chemistry at York University in Toronto, Canada, and at the Technical University of Berlin Institute for Organic Chemistry in Berlin, Germany. He also was an associate professor of chemistry at Purdue University Calumet.

Following his time at Purdue, Dr. Ryan completed his medical degree at Indiana State University. Although he and his family loved Indianapolis, the warmth of the Florida sun beckoned to him again. He completed his residency training in emergency medicine at Orlando Regional Medical Center and then joined the faculty at UF.

Dr. Ryan also currently serves as emergency medicine clerkship director and director of the fourth year for the UF College of Medicine, as well as chair of the pharmaceutical and therapeutics committee for UF Health. His clinical interests in medicine include medical education, public health and epidemiology.
