Michael Charles Petrauskis, M.D., M.Ed. is a board-certified emergency physician and clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. He completed medical school at Tulane University School of Medicine and residency at Louisiana State University’s Spirit of Charity Emergency Medicine Residency Program in New Orleans where he served as a chief resident. After practicing community emergency medicine for three years in Miami, Florida, Dr. Petrauskis joined UF full-time in 2022 and is now part of the core academic faculty. Dr. Petrauskis’ interests and academic pursuits lie in medical education, physician well-being, the business of emergency medicine, and personal finance. He created and hosts The ER Break Room, the University of Florida Department of Emergency Medicine podcast which seeks to enhance relatedness and build community through highlighting narratives and achievements of faculty, staff, fellows, and residents. Dr. Petrauskis has collaborated with department leadership on multiple projects including coding and billing, reimbursement, note completion, and scribe program evaluation. He volunteers in the community at Equal Access, a network of student-run free healthcare clinics established by the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Petrauskis’ hobbies include eating good food at a good price, weightlifting, birding, and exploring the outdoors of North Central Florida. Dr. Petrauskis applies President Jimmy Carter’s philosophy to his medical career, “My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I can, whenever I can for as long as I can with whatever I have, to try to make a difference.”
