The University of Florida Department of Emergency Medicine’s Division of Critical Care Medicine serves critically ill patients, advances critical care education and produces cutting-edge research. The division bridges critical care from outpatient to inpatient through education, research, and clinical excellence centered around the critically ill patient.
Education
As an academic health center, the Division also has one of the largest Critical Care Medicine Fellowships in the country. The fellowship’s goal is to develop well-rounded Emergency Medicine Intensivists capable of treating critically ill patients with any variety of pathophysiology.

Critical Care Medicine
There are five pathways to subspecialty board certification in critical care for diplomates of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM).

Surgical Critical Care
Surgical Critical Care is a subspecialty of surgery and a primary component of general surgery related to the care of patients with acute, life-threatening or potentially life-threatening surgical conditions.
Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine
The critical care medicine physician is a specialist with a broad knowledge of all aspects of management of the critically ill patient, whose primary base of operation is the intensive care unit (ICU).
Internal Medicine – Critical Care Medicine
Critical Care Medicine covers the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of clinical problems representing the extreme of human disease.
