Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine

Emergency Medicine has transformed from a specialty based on borrowed information to a specialty rooted in a unique knowledge base. This transformation stems largely from the growth of emergency medicine research. For emergency medicine residents, a research project not only fulfills curriculum requirements, but also fosters self confidence as well as in-depth knowledge in a particular area. For faculty, research is an important component of faculty development that facilitates the growth of junior faculty into accomplished academicians. Moreover, academic recognition ensures emergency physicians’ access to the scarce and coveted resources that enhance the clinical care of emergency department patients.

At the University of Florida, Gainesville, the Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to fostering an atmosphere of academic excellence through the support of undergraduate, medical student, resident, fellow and faculty research and scholarly productivity. This is achieved through a process of mentoring and one-on-one assistance with all aspects of the research process from hypothesis generation through manuscript preparation. Further, the department actively supports advanced training, degree acquisition and interdisciplinary collaboration in the robust academic atmosphere of the University of Florida.
