Community Service
Community service is an important focus of our department.
The following are projects our faculty participate in as volunteers.
Equal Access
Once a month Emergency Medicine faculty work with UF Medical Students at Equal Access. This clinic provides medical care to the underserved of Gainesville. One of our faculty, Dr. Hoelle won the 2006 Equal Access Clinic Faculty Service Award.
DR HELP
Every year Dr. Hoelle participated in the Dominica Republic Health and Language Project. For one week a group of Medical Students and physicians volunteer their time and provide basic health care to 5 different rural communities.

Some rural clinics in the DR have no electricity, and most patients travel by foot or donkey.
Thailand
Dr. Ferguson and several faculty from other departments, as well as, a group of dedicated nurses have flown to Thailand on their own expenses and provided vaccinations and basic health screening to hundreds of people.
