Dr. De Portu was born in Rome, Italy and grew up in Italy and Puerto Rico. He is a graduate from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in Biology. He worked as a photojournalist for local newspapers and the Associated Press in the Caribbean where he obtained numerous awards in that field. After 10 years he changed careers and obtained his medical degree at Ross University with high honors.
He completed his emergency medicine residency at University of Florida in Gainesville. He was the first Ultrasound Fellow in the Emergency Medicine department at UF in 2012, and joined the department as full time faculty in 2013. He is specially interested in integrating ultrasound into the medical school curriculum.
Outside of work Dr. De Portu enjoys Aikido, photography and piano playing and spending time with his wife and baby boy.
