Dr. Henry Young, MD was offered an appointment as a KL2 Scholar funded by a National Institute of Health (NIH), National Center for Advancement of Translational Science (NCATS) Award Number 1KL2TR001429. Dr. Young will be exploring the implementation of a patient centered approach to treating pain-utilizing alternatives to opioids in the emergency department and assessing if individuals at increased risk to abuse opioids are willing to accept these safer alternatives. The goal of the study is to reduce the overall prescription of opioids while continuing to effectively manage pain with safer less addictive treatment options.
